About the role
Everything passes through this seat. Councils send route changes, crew call in sick, and vehicles break down in the morning peak. You make sure the car still arrives.
Most of what we run is SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). You own the day-to-day relationship with the London Boroughs of Ealing, Harrow and Brent, keep crew compliant and paid correctly, and check that what we invoice matches what we ran.
This is an office role, based in Harrow, north west London. You will be at a desk with a phone and a screen, not out on the routes.
You report to the chief executive. Most of this work sits there today. It moves to you. We would like you in post in September or October 2026.
What you'll do
- Allocate routes, arrange cover, and fix anything that threatens a morning or afternoon run.
- Be the named contact for council transport teams on route changes, new placements, incidents and complaints.
- Mobilise routes we win. The chief executive bids for the work. You build the crew and get the route running.
- Chase DBS, licences, insurance, MOT and training before they expire.
- Onboard new drivers and PAs through the Staff app, and decide who is ready for a live SEND route.
- Check attendance against what is billable, so remittances and invoices agree.
- Support council staff using our council portal, where each borough sees its own routes, crew and reports.
- Escalate safeguarding concerns to the chief executive the same day, and record them properly.
What you'll need
- Experience running a transport, logistics or school transport operation.
- Calm under a ringing phone. Most of this job is deciding quickly on partial information.
- Confident with spreadsheets and operational software. You will work in our dispatch board every day.
- An enhanced DBS check. We help you get one if you don't have it.
- The right to work in the UK.
Nice to have
None of these are required. Apply without them.
- Experience of SEND or home-to-school transport.
- Worked with a London borough transport or brokerage team.
- Safeguarding lead training.
Pay and benefits
£32,000 to £36,000 a year, depending on your experience.
37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday. 07:00 to 15:00, with a 30 minute lunch break.
Paid monthly by bank transfer, PAYE.
What comes with the job
- Paid holiday and pension.
- Safeguarding and first aid training provided.
- Office based in Harrow, north west London.
- A small team, so the person running the operation decides how it runs.
